How to Cook Tofu

If you have never cooked with tofu, why not give it a try? The flavor of tofu is very neutral and will take on whatever character you wish to give it. You can substitute the tofu in almost any recipe that calls for protein and it will be delicious.

If you wonder how to cook tofu then here is some information that can help demystify the process. Most tofu you buy will come packed in water in a plastic tub. Remove the tofu from the tub and discard the water it was packed in. Place the block of tofu on a clean kitchen towel or several layers of paper towels and squeeze out all the moisture. When you have removed the moisture, you can slice the tofu into the shape you wish to use.

For fried tofu, you may wish to slice in to triangles or cubes and add to your  stir-fry dishes. Other recipes that include tofu may call for it to be grilled and in those instances, slices that will easily stay on a grill grate are the best.  Once you know how to cook tofu, you will want to include it in some dishes such as lasagna to increase the protein content by adding  some crumbled tofu to the filling before it is baked. Tofu is easy to use and adds a great nutritional element to your cooking.
